Will’s in the Studio – Long Awaited Mix CD Now in Production! |
|
|
|
It’s been a long time …but the wait will soon be over. The phenomenally successful mix CD ‘Digging in the Vaults’,
which was completed in the autumn of 2004 and went out on over eight
different FM and Net based radio stations is about to get its follow
up. Titled ‘Keep it Moving 2007’, the mix travels from 1970 rarities to
exclusive cutting edge productions for 2007 – along with a special ‘In
Session’ with Lauren Ford, a jaw dropping vocal talent from Georgia who
was recorded, by chance, in the Forrest Café Basement Studio.
On
production duties is Chris Hall (Pictured 1) who is taking the whole ethos of the mix CD to another level. The deepest voice of them all, Rich Medina, (pictured 2) laces his tone over the beats. Special!

Will tags-team with Chris ‘Long Tail’ Anderson |
|
|
|
Will worked with the creator and author of the Long Tail concept on this 'comment' article for the Performing Rights Society's
in-house magazine 'M'. The article looked at what the long tail means
for music and introduces several new angles not featured in the
original book. Since publication, Will’s been working on new data from
Digital Music Sales which not only shows how long that tail it is, but
also how think it is – suggesting that the 80/20 rule might have been
reinforced rather than reversed.

Will Gets Stuck Into Mudville |
|
|
|
When it comes to drawing parallels, Mudville
sure know how to blur the lines: think Curtis Mayfield's weighty
grooves and P.J. Harvey's avant-blues passion. Unsigned, and outta NYC,
singer Marilyn Carino and producer-bassist Ben Rubin have been working
with Will and the Analysis Lost team on a their forthcoming fully
fledged release, due date fall 2006. The music harks back to the
glories of the past, but Mudville's message is conveyed by way of
cutting-edge, modern day lyrics and production. The tension between old
and new is what makes the Mudville sound so appealing - a fact not lost
on the film and television industries, with the Canadian Gemini award
winning RegenesisTV show recently making prime time use of the outstanding picks from their debut album ‘The Glory of Man is not in Vogue’, 'Blown' & 'The Hero of the World', to critical acclaim.
To get stuck into Mudville, you can download TheHeroOfTheWorld 2.07 Mb for free. You can also take a peek at a short video promo. mudville_promo 6.51 Mb

The Long Tail - Will's Working on Niche Markets |
|
|
|
|
The theory of the Long Tail is that our culture and economy is
increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of
"hits" (mainstream products and markets) at the head of the demand
curve and toward a huge number of niches in the tail. Click on the
thumbnail to illustrate an example of long tail economics the top is a
simplified traditional retail scenario in which 20% of the products
account for 80% of the revenues and virtually all of the
profits (because high-turn products use shelf space more efficiently).
But in Long Tail market at the bottom, where shelf space is infinite
and the cost of carrying a niche product is roughly the same as
carrying a hit product, three things change: (i) you can offer many
more products and (ii) because it is so much easier to find these
products thanks to filters and (iii) Because the economics of niches
are roughly the same as hits, profit is spread as evenly as sales.
Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine, has taken the bold step to develop his forthcoming book through his public diary, where every chapter is being challenged by fellow economists. Check in on the Blog for Will Page's contributions to this important development in book, film and music industries.
